Slow River Episode 6: Head of the Cuyahoga Regatta on the Cuyahoga River

This week’s Slow River subject is the start line of Cleveland Rowing Foundation’s 2018 Head of the Cuyahoga Regatta. The annual 3rd-Saturday-in-September regatta attracts over 2,500 scholastic, collegiate, and masters athletes from 15 states, 35 cities, and Ontario Canada.

The start line under the I-490 bridge is downriver from the Cuyahoga River’s turning basin. Upriver, Cleveland-Cliffs steel manufacturing plants loom in the distance while downriver, St. Mary’s Cement, Osborne Concrete & Stone, and Marathon Petroleum Corp. facilities add the the visual allure of Cleveland’s hard-working waterfront.

On July 24 paddlers can be a part of the 3rd Annual Blazing Paddles Paddlefest, a kayak, paddleboard and canoe recreational celebration of Cleveland’s hardworking, scenic, and historic Cuyahoga River with a recreational 8.6-mile paddle/float and three races (2, 5.4 and 13-miles) for paddlers to enjoy.
