Opening Day for the 2018 Great Lakes Maritime Season on the Cuyahoga River

With spring officially three weeks off, Northeast Ohio looks for any signs of its early arrival and Tuesday delivered with a balmy 58 degree day. People walking along Cleveland's riverfront received an additional treat as Interlake Steamship Company's Dorothy Ann/Pathfinder made its first trip of the 2018 maritime shipping season (2 months after its icy transit down the river in January) up the Cuyahoga River to deliver a load of aggregate to LafargeHolcim's dock. The Dorothy Ann/Pathfinder then headed back out to Lake Erie to begin shuttling iron ore from the Port of Cleveland's Bulk Terminal to ArcelorMittal's steelmaking operations at the head of the federal navigation channel.

As the Dorothy Ann/Pathfinder offloaded its cargo in the shadow of Progressive Field, we couldn't help but start counting down the days for the next Opening Day, the Cleveland Indians' home opener on Friday, April 6th!
