Slow River Episode 9: Great Republic Turn on the Cuyahoga River

This week’s Slow River happens during the Veteran's Memorial Bridge Open House in 2017 as the 635 foot-long Great Republic (1981) navigated the Superior Bend portion of Cleveland's Cuyahoga River. With eight rudders, both bow and stern thrusters, twin diesel engines (producing 7,200 b.h.p.) driving the two variable pitch propellers housed in strengthened Kort Nozzles, the Great Republic is considered to be the most nimble and maneuverable ship in the world. https://www.boatnerd.com/pictures/fleet/greatrepublic.htm
