Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival and the Cuyahoga River Adventure in Your Back Yard - Blazing Paddles Paddlefest!

The recent two-night Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival at the Capitol Theater in Cleveland gave attendees a vicarious night of adventure while they watched epic human-powered feats, life-affirming challenges and mind-blowing cinematography.

The event organizer, Paul Fish, kindly invited Share the River’s founder, Jim Ridge, to share a few thoughts during the program intermission about the upcoming July 22 Blazing Paddles Paddlefest. Jim reminded the audience it had been almost three years since a global pandemic had prevented audiences from gathering for events like the Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival.

The following morning, Jim reflected on the film festival’s two nights of vicarious adventure. “It dawned on me how the audience was so enthralled by the incredible adventures taking place in far-away lands, yet a mere mile and a half away is the historic and scenic Cuyahoga River, coursing right through the middle of Cleveland, a large city, with Cuyahoga Valley National Park just 8 miles away. The large opportunity (and responsibility) for me and my Blazing Paddles Paddlefest organizing team is to provide our paddlers with a unique opportunity for adventure and exploration on a river rich in cultural heritage and history (download the map below). Who knows, maybe one day, the Cuyahoga River will serve as a backdrop for a future adventure film!”
